London, 25th September, 2008: It is a challenging time for businesses in the UK and around the world but with the 2008 National Business Awards fast approaching, Orange is celebrating business achievements and are proud to announce the finalists for the prestigious Orange Business Leader of the Year award. A wide spread of industry executives in manufacturing, transport and aeronautics made the final cut, proving that even in difficult times British business can survive and prosper. The total 2007/2008 annual turnover for the finalists’ companies added together grosses a staggering £20bn for the UK economy.
This year’s finalists are:
Mr Willie Walsh, Chief Executive British Airways
Mr Andy Vickers, Managing Director Canon Ltd UK
Sir John Rose, Chief Executive Rolls-Royce Plc
Mr Mel Ewell, Chief Executive Amey
Mr Michael Parker, Group Chief Executive BNFL
Mr Brian Souter, Co Founder Stagecoach
Ms Fiona Dawson, Managing Director Masterfoods UK
Mr John McDonough, Chief Executive Carillion
Commenting on this year’s nominees, Paul Tollett, Vice President of Orange Business Services UK said: “This year’s finalists for the Orange Business Leader of the Year Award showcase the most respected and dynamic minds in business. In this difficult climate it is great to see such a wide cross section of industries prospering. As leaders of innovative and famed businesses, the finalists are all worthy of this nomination and we would like to wish them all the best at the awards in November.”
Business leaders are judged on vision and determination to bring about a successful project, significant improvement, profit or development across their business. This is arguably an even greater achievement in today’s current climate.
“It is encouraging to see the industry breadth the 2008 finalists represent in this prestigious category. The National Business Awards celebrates business ethics, innovation and success and with the credit crunch continuing to bite it is uplifting to see the hunger for success in business grow stronger across most industries. The outlook of almost all of the finalists has remained healthy although an element of caution has been built into their forward planning, however, as far as 2008 is concerned it is another very competitive year with another difficult period ahead for the judges in deciding which of the outstanding business leaders to select as the final winner. The calibre of this year’s finalists shows that there is plenty of vigour and appetite for success in UK plc,” added Mike Faulkner, Group Director, The National Business Awards.
The National Business Awards Dinner and Ceremony are due to take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel London on 18th November 2008. Find out more about the awards and the 2008 finalists: www.nationalbusinessawards.co.uk.
