London October 20th, Orange RockCorps the unique music led volunteering programme, in partnership with the UK’s leading volunteering website, do-it.org.uk , announces new innovative volunteering opportunity for young people in the UK, offering them the chance to ‘give & get given’ with the Orange RockCorps Collective
Orange RockCorps’ first show in the UK on September 26th, featuring Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Feeder, John Legend, The Automatic, Guillemots and Lethal Bizzle, was a phenomenal success. 5000 volunteers gave 20,000 hours to community projects to earn their tickets, and over 40 UK charities benefitted from the work completed by young people.
Following the positive impact of the 2008 show, Orange RockCorps announces the launch of the ‘Orange RockCorps Collective’. In partnership with do-it.org.uk, run by online charity, YouthNet, this new programme offers young people a chance to give 4 hours of volunteer work wherever and whenever they want, to earn benefits from partners and be a part of the Orange RockCorps volunteering movement.
Volunteers can find projects through the Orange RockCorps website, www.orangerockcorps.co.uk , where they will be able to access do-it.org.uk, by typing their postcode they will find a list of roles near to them. Do-it.org.uk also provides people interested in volunteering, with information and advice on how to find the perfect role.
Those who have completed four hours of work for their chosen charity, simply submit photos to Orange RockCorps, and describe what they did. Once approved by RockCorps, they will then be eligible to receive exclusive online premiums including a free Orange SIM card with £20 credit. Volunteers will also be eligible to win prizes like top of the line handsets and £200 credit from Orange and a Les Paul Goddess Gibson guitar from Gibson valued at more than £1,600.
Stephen Greene, CEO and co-founder of RockCorps commented:
“The Orange RockCorps Collective gives young people the perfect opportunity to volunteer on their own terms; The Orange RockCorps Collective is a nation-wide programme, which continues beyond the success of the show, to encourage young people into a lifelong relationship with volunteering and activism”
Fiona Dawe, Chief Executive of young people’s charity YouthNet, the charity behind volunteering website, do-it.org.uk, said:
“The Orange RockCorps event has enabled thousands of young people to see for themselves the impact volunteering can have on their local community, their skills and their self-esteem. Orange RockCorps Collective The Orange RockCorps Collective offers young people a chance to give 4 hours of volunteer work wherever and whenever they want and be able to earn benefits from partners and be a part of the movement.
By allowing 16-25 year-olds to volunteer on their own terms, The RockCorps Collective is a nation-wide program that continues beyond the concert in making volunteering accessible. The Collective allows for a deeper partnership between all charities and the thousands of young people that want to give back
RockCorps: RockCorps launched in 2005 to affect social change and act as the bridge between communities in need and the young adults who want to make them better. Since that time, RockCorps has combined the power of music, community and volunteerism to expose young people to simple ways they can proactively contribute.
This is much more than a series of volunteer events and concerts; it is a way to connect young people with dynamic charities already doing great work in the local community. Research has shown that over 35% of the participants have volunteered again within 6 to 12 months – either with the same charity, or in another effort.
do-it.org.uk Run by online charity YouthNet, do-it.org.uk is the UK’s leading volunteering website. It hosts over a million volunteering opportunities, searchable by postcode, plus articles and advice on finding the perfect role. Currently over 260,000 people are registered on do-it.org.uk and each month over 20,000 opportunities are applied for through the site
YouthNet is the UK’s first exclusively online charity and was founded by Martyn Lewis CBE in 1995. It aims to create a socially inclusive environment where all young adults are engaged, informed and inspired to achieve their ambitions and dreams, and does this through two award winning websites, do-it.org.uk and the online guide to life for 16 to 24-year-olds, TheSite.org.
