3 is now offering its most competitive deal to Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband customers, by making its USB Modems available for just £69.99.

The new retail price for Pay As You Go USB Modems (or Dongles) being introduced this week will make 3 the only mobile operator to offer such a deal.

With the current Pay As You Go price plan customers can get a 1GB data allowance with a £10 Add-on, 3GB with a £15 Add-on and 7GB with a £25 Add-on. Each Add-on lasts for 30 days.

3’s most popular 3GB package provides users with up to 2000 plain text emails and 100 hours of surfing the web, with an additional 100 two minute video downloads and 200 music tracks.

Nokia Tube likely to launch 2 Oct

The Nokia Tube. It has no other names.

While we’re loath to believe scurrilous internet rumours, the long-awaited Nokia Tube (AKA the 5800 XpressMusic) looks likely to debut next week.

Nokia is holding an international press event on the 2 October, apparently to launch the Comes with Music service, but pocket-lint is reporting that the phone seen in The Dark Knight film will be unveiled too.

Press photos of the new device have been leaked by mobil.cz, and it makes some sense that Nokia would debut a phone when all eyes are aimed at such portable devices thanks to Google’s launch earlier this week.

O2’s reward scheme pays over £15 million to its staff

O2 UK today announced that it will pay a cash reward of up to £1,000 to each eligible employee as part of its second annual ‘Thanks a Million’ reward scheme. 

O2 people were set the challenge of being number 1 for customer satisfaction in O2’s quarterly customer satisfaction surveys.  At the end of December an independent research agency commissioned by O2 confirmed O2’s customers said they were “more satisfied “ than customers of O2’s network operator competitors, triggering a payment of over £15 million to staff.

We all wept and lamented when the Phonesaber App disappeared thanks to stupid ‘copyright issues’ from THQ.

Well, the good news is that its maker, TheMacBox, has finally released an official version, having teamed up with the Star Wars lot to add in some bells and whistles too, as was revealed by Arstechnica.

However, there has been some criticism (from places like Macenstein for instance) that the new product is ‘over-branded’.

Things like having to say no to buying the game each time the App starts, or a long boot up time, clearly irk those who enjoyed making swooshy sounds with their handset.

Google has decided it isn’t content just unveiling a mobile OS that it hopes will disrupt the industry… it wants to change the way networks operate too.

New Scientist has revealed a patent application made by the search kings that would allow your handset to find out what you want to do on it – be it internet connection, text or call, and would send that info to the operators.

They would all then ‘bid’ for your custom by offering you a choice of prices… helping you save that important moolah you would need to buy a new handset.
