INQ plans the next social networking phone

INQ has confirmed that it will be bringing a Twitter phone to market for Christmas this year, after the success of its first effort.

The Facebook phone, or INQ1, had tight integration with the biggest social network, and the next effort (unconfirmed as the INQ2) will have Twitter support baked in the case.

It is reported this low cost handset, which only cost £80 the 3 network, managed to shift 700,000 units, and is still apparently wandering out the shops at a pretty impressive rate.

Is the Facebook phone going to change the face of mobiles?

The INQ1 handset

TechRadar attended the launch of the INQ1 handset, and we weren’t really sure what we were going to get. Leaked pics and specs hinted at a slider handset with the abilities of the Skypephone S2, except with Facebook as the main focus.

What we got pleasantly surprised us, especially for the price. It costs £80 on PAYG, or £15 a month for free on contract. We’d be tempted by the latter option, as using the Facebook, Skype chat and internet services on PAYG will eat £5 of your credit each month.

The new INQ1 handset

Mobile network operator 3 has unveiled the new INQ1 handset, known unofficially on the internet as the ‘Facebook phone’ thanks to the fact you can integrate your friends’ Facebook details and statuses into the handset’s contact list.

3 claims it is the “world’s most advanced social networking phone”, and it certainly is trying to steal the market by adding the likes of Skype, with its VOIP telephony and chat services, into the contact list as well.
